Both marked with an unidentified 'HVS' mark and dated 1781.
The first dish, inscribed “HANDE:16” (Handelingen / Acts 16), most likely depicts Paul and Silas in Philippi. After being imprisoned for their preaching, they remained steadfast in faith; following a miraculous earthquake, the jailer approached them in fear and asked how he too might be saved (Acts 16:25–34).
The second dish, inscribed “JOA:4:7” (Johannes / John 4:7), illustrates Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well. In this well-known episode, Jesus asks a Samaritan woman for water and speaks to her of “living water,” symbolising spiritual renewal and salvation (John 4:7–26).
