An important pair of polychrome Dutch Delft cashmere palette figures of Diana and Mercury, dated 172(?)

Both inscribed 172 on the base, which we believe is a dating of 172(?), rather than a model or reference number. The cashmere palette enjoyed brief but widespread success in the first half of the 18th century.

- Aronson Antiquairs, Amsterdam, published in their 2000 catalogue 'Dutch Delftware', ill, 21, where the pair of figures is attributed to Lambertus Van Eenhoorn (date), for the De Metalen Pot workshop. (see attached catalogue scan)

- Kunstmuseum Den Haag, object numbers 1059395 and 1059398, for one blue and white pair (link) and one polychrome pair (link), both on loan from the Lavino collection. The tentative dating of these pieces to 1720-1750 is in line with the date on the base of our examples.
