The service was made for Lieutenant Colonel John Chadwick (1720-1800) of Ridware and Healey Hall. The arms are those of Chadwick quartering Malvesyn, Carden and Bagot. Inscribed 'Canton in China 24th January 1791' to the back. 

Provenance:
- The private collection of Mr. Binder, son of J. Louis Binder, USA.
- With a label of The Mujintang Collection to the back.
