The design is based on the engraving 'L’Eau' by Jean-Joseph Balechou, after a drawing by Philippe Canot (1715–1783) and published by Thomas and John Bowles in London in 1752. It was part of a series entitled "The Elements", and including "Air", "Earth", "Fire" and "Water".
