A pair of Chinese famille rose 'European subject' cups and saucers, Qianlong

278

Dia.: 11,9 cm (the saucers)
Dia.: 7,7 cm - H.: 4,1 cm (the cups)

The scene, depicting a couple in a garden, was taken from an engraving entitled Le Printemps by Nicolas de Larmessin III (1684-1755), a French print-maker. This was part of a series of engravings, Les Quatre Saisons, devoted to the four seasons and produced around 1740-45, after a painting by Nicholas Lancret (1690-1743) of 1738.
