L.: 28 cm - H.: 20,7 cm (incl. cover)

Bearing the arms of Backwell quartering Tyringham. This service was likely made for Tyringham Backwell (d. 1754), eldest son of John Backwell and his wife Elizabeth Tyringham.
According to Howard, the service was almost certainly brought from Canton by Captain Duncomb Backwell, cousin to Tyringham, who sailed for the East India Company as captain of the Princess Royal in 1738 and the Northampton in 1741. (Source: Howard, 'Chinese Armorial Porcelain')
