The first miniature (right) depicts a formal audience scene with a ruler or noble seated beneath a white canopy, surrounded by attendants. This composition appears to be inspired by earlier representations of Shah Jahan and his son Dara Shikoh, shown here during a ceremonial event, possibly linked to Dara’s marriage.
The second miniature (left) shows a more intimate gathering of nobles, seated cross-legged while smoking hookahs and enjoying leisure. Three attendants observe or serve from behind. The setting includes a rich interior and a stylised outdoor view through the background arch.
Provenance:
- The collection of Mr. and Mrs. S., Ghent, Belgium.
- Acquired from Vanderween, Oudenaarde, Belgium, in April 1986, according to the owner's inventory notes.
