This plate belongs to the “Valckenier 2” service, one of several services ordered by Governor-General Adriaan Valckenier during his tenure in Batavia (1737–1741). The Valckenier 2 service is characterised by its refined palette of red, blue and gold, with pieces including dinner and tea wares such as plates, dishes, ewers and salt cellars. It represents one of the richest and most complete of all Dutch armorial porcelain services of the period.
